OG Product Review: Chanel Soleil De Chanel

I have decided to start a review series on OG products. Products that are not new to the market but still have people wanting them because they once had a lot of hype. It seemed fitting to start this series with the ever popular Chanel Soleil De Chanel makeup base. The Chanel De Soleil Chanel makeup base can be purchased in Australia from David Jones for $69 AUD or from the United States at Nordstrom for $50 USD.

There is a lot of product here! a whopping 30 grams to be exact. I have had mine for two years and have not put much of a dent in it (yes I know makeup expires but I keep it unless it separates or smells funky…..and this has not happened to this product yet).

Do not be scared by the orange appearance of this product. I know it looks a bit scary because the orange appearance of the product was the reason why I procrastinated on buying this for so long! The cream blends out to a beautiful natural bronze glow on my nc20 skin. It looks so natural and does not throw out a hint of orange.

I find this applies best with my finger (softly dabbing and blending out) or with a stiffer brush like the Real Techniques one shown above (I have no idea the exact name as it has worn off). A dual fiber brush would work well with this product. I often use this as a bronzing cream base before applying a bronzing powder like the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow on top. If you apply to much of this product it can easily be blended out to a natural finish. This really is a fool proof product!

Overall I love this product, it is a staple in my top draw which I would replace without a second thought if it ever ran out. I rate this product 9/10.

I would love to know if your thoughts on this product! xxxx

Too Faced Chocolate Gold Bar and Chocolate Gold Bronzer Review

I was lucky enough to get early access to purchase the Too Faced Chocolate Gold collection at Mecca. I chose to purchase the Chocolate Gold Bar palette ($71 AUD) and the Chocolate Gold Bronzer ($44 AUD). The collection will be released in Australia 30th January, and if your lucky enough to live in the U.S it is already available.

The Chocolate Gold Bar palette comes with 16 shades consisting of 12 metallic and 4 matte. The shades applied on the lids better than they swatched. I was concerned the four mattes were not going to be sufficient but I was able to get a full eye look from this palette, finding the matte shades were good for setting the lid, transition , darkening the outer corner and for use as eyeliner. The metallic shades applied well with a finger rather than a brush which was expected. Full disclosure I applied the Nars eye primer before I worked with these shadows which is what I do every time I do my makeup.

My palette had a weird almost chemical chocolate smell, it was not like my other chocolate bar palettes. I would love to know if others found this palette had a strange smell? Overall I do like this palette and I am glad I have added it to my Too Faced Chocolate Bar collection, but in all honesty I prefer the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill vol.2 palette (click for my review on that palette) which was the same price as this. I rate this palette 7/10.

The other item I purchased was the Chocolate Gold Bronzer ($44 AUD). The packaging on this was so cute…. you know I am a sucker for pretty packaging. Like the palette I thought this had a strange chemical chocolate smell which I did not find pleasant.

At first glace I thought this might be a dupe for the Tom Ford Gold Dust bronzer, it was close but not an exact dupe. As I normally use the Too Faced Milk Chocolate bronzer, I thought it might be too dark on my nc 20-25 skin as it looks substantially darker than the milk chocolate version. I was happy that it was not to dark at all when applied to my skin. The bronzer applied and blended out perfectly over my Shisedo Synchro Skin foundation that was set with the Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Finish Powder. I loved the way it looked on my skin, it gave my skin a lovely natural glow that had a nice subtle sheen. I am so happy with this purchase. I rate this bronzer 8/10 (it would have been a 9 but the smell really is not my cup a tea).
